Justin Sivertson

Justin “Master Chief of the Galaxy” Sivertson was born in Grand Forks, cutting his teeth in the Grand Forks youth hockey program before landing a varsity spot on the dynasty Grand Forks Central.

Post-high school, he traded his skates for a deeper dive into auto starts, high-end car stereos, custom cars and a trip to the Electrical Engineering Department at UND.

Discovering that blinking lights were only “really exciting” for so long, Justin left that endeavor in pursuit of a little more action. Happening upon a military recruiter’s office, he popped in and asked about the most exciting thing they had to offer. In typical recruiter fashion, he was met with something to the effect of, “I got you, battle.”

Indeed.

Over eight years of military service, Justin was rapidly promoted into the NCO ranks and entrusted with ever-increasing levels of responsibility. Along the way, he had the opportunity to travel the world and operate in some interesting locations in support of OEF and OIF, having at one point traveled to more countries than states. This all changed when his wife decided she wanted dogs.

Following his military service, Justin earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, remarried, obtained his USA Hockey Level 4 coaching certification, and coached at every level of youth hockey from termites through high school. Somewhere along the way, he also settled into civilian life as a project manager for a sheet-metal contractor.

Today, still having that itch for excitement, Justin can be found testing dynamical models while pursuing a graduate degree in Systems Engineering, spending time with family—and those dogs—reading, playing hockey, and, as if that weren’t enough, shredding the drums in his marginally successful cover band.

As Secretary, Justin is responsible for keeping the organization’s records, documenting board meetings and decisions, helping maintain the administrative side of the club, and occasionally giving the appearance that he has some idea of what is going on.
